.scot provides individuals, organisations & businesses with the opportunity to illustrate their Scottish heritage via the World Wide Web. The much anticipated release of .scot was driven closely in line with the Scottish Independence Referendum.
.scot was released for general availability on the 23rd of September and 4,000 .scot domain names were registered by members of the public within an hour of the domain name becoming available. There were 1,500 .scot domain names snapped up in the first minute of the launch and these included: Labour.scot, Braveheart.scot, Cocacola.scot & Facebook.scot.
.scot is now available to register from HostLove at only £24.40 per annum – make a name for yourself today! Be quick!
You have probably came across the term gTLD, in the rare occasion that you haven’t, this is an acronym for “Generic Top Level Domain Name” and this includes: .com, .org, .net and .gov. Due to the lack of available domain names within the gTLD name space, ICANN (the governing body of Domain Names) introduced New Top Level Domain Names to increase availability of domain names. Thus, they decided to introduce new Domain Names including: .London, .solutions, .digital, .finance and .club.
As previously mentioned, new top level domain names were introduced to free up domain name space and these new extensions permit easy recognition of an individual’s/businesses specialism at a quick glance, for example, technicaldatacentre.solutions
It can be a difficult decision for businesses when they are deciding on the type of server they require as, commonly, each individual business has unique requirements they are looking to satisfy. It is worthwhile that you spend adequate time researching the options available to ensure that you reach an appropriate conclusion.
A Cloud Server is simply a cluster of virtual machines all running within the same network. These cloud servers are highly redundant and use a variety of hardware, ensuring 100% uptime and reliability. In reality all hosting providers ‘clouds’ are different, as these have been built at different times using different technologies, hardware and features.
A dedicated server is a physical server which we would host in our state-of-the-art data centre. You are the sole user & owner of this server, all resources available within the server are available for your requirements only – there are no shared elements to this solution – this will be mirrored in the power & speed you experience with this solution.
Domain names are your way of securing an online identity; this occasionally is someone’s first opinion of your business/website. In addition, it is also important not to discourage website visits by having a ridiculously long-and-hyphenated-domain-name. This blog post aims to ensure you are prepared to register your first domain name.
Ensure you check the availability of a domain name prior to launching a business/brand name as it is essential that your online presence is seamless with a clear and consistent brand name. You can easily check the availability of domain names by clicking here.
Almost everyone has symptoms of football fever due to The 2014 World Cup! We have had colleagues arrive at work with flags draped over their shoulders, flags hung over the back of chairs and (thanks to HR) we have also had football on TV screens all around the office! One vital element of the World Cup to me, personally, as a marketer, is the ads being released by brands throughout the event.
Our Favourite Ads of The World Cup
We have cherry picked a few of our favourite ads, let us know which ones you prefer or if you have any other favourites!
Coming in 4th is Nike Football with a few incredible stars including; Ronaldo, Neymar, Rooney, Ibrahimovic and Iniesta!
Coming in 3rd – Visa featuring Zidane and Cannavaro
Coming in 2nd – ESPN (every four years the world has the same time zone)
And in 1st place…. drum roll please…. McDonalds – you simply cannot beat the unique elements of the McDonalds ad – bunch of ordinary people & one heck of a talented and cool papa!
These ads highlight how brands can effectively reach out to their target audiences whilst also capitalising on one of the largest sporting events in the world (sorry Olympics!).
As you may know, social media has been creating a lot of buzz online. Subsequently, social media use is now more widespread, mainstream and influential than ever before. For example:
- 72% of all internet users are now active on social media
- 89% of those between 18 and 29 years old are social media users
- 71% of users access social media from a mobile device.
Social Media News – May
Throughout May we have come across a few new features of social media. For example, Twitter introduced a new functionality called “Mute” whereby users can continue to follow users but can remove them from their timeline. Twitter proclaimed that the mute button will give you: “even more control over the content you see on Twitter by letting you remove a user’s content from key parts of your Twitter experience.”
Facebook is taking standalone applications to a new extreme with the new function which forces users to download their Facebook Messenger Chat; previously it was optional to download this application. Now, the only way to escape the Messenger application is by owning a low-end Android with an OS too old to run Messenger or by using Facebook’s mobile web site.
Amazon has linked up with Twitter to satisfy their new Amazon Basket facility. This means that Amazon shoppers can now add items to their online shopping basket by tweeting a special hash tag. This technology was introduced to improve Amazon consumers’ convenience and experiences when purchasing (not with Amazons’ profits at the core of the idea of course).
Adidas look to launch a unique photo printing app that will allow customers to print their favourite images onto their ZX Flux trainer. This strategy by Adidas may be a strong substitute which will allow them to compete against their direct competitor Nike with their ability to personalise trainers with Nike iD.
So, no doubt that this has been yet another action packed month in social media. It is vital that you keep up-to-date with improvements in social media so that your organisation can remain competitive throughout the social landscape. Keep up-to-date with our brand news by following us on Twitter, Facebook & LinkedIn.

This weekend we will be carrying out our 5 yearly maintenance inspection of all electrical systems. During this time the test server will be offline all weekend Saturday 29th March and Sunday 30th March.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
If you were not already aware of this – we are releasing new gTLDs every week – I know, exhausting! These domains are all very unique, so we have been asking ourselves, how responsive has the market been to these?
